What ya sellin'? A drink for the future Pirate King?
This ad is selling the Fanta soda using the characters of the most printed comic book series ever One Piece. It makes sense for Japan to use characters that are basically mascots in their country to sell products. The little reindeer looking guy next to Luffy in the first image is another example of Japan's fixation with cute mascots, not that I'm complaining. It's like our equivalent to having Tom Holland's Spider-Man appear in a commercial for the NBA Finals. People know who Spider-Man is, over there people know who Monkey D. Luffy is. It's always been so interesting to me how Japan does their ads. They have some sort of fixation with cuteness. They even have Pikachu themed trains! What about Sonic and his friends? I mean why did the new Sonic movie interpret him as a cute young kid? Because it fits the character. There's another cute mascot for ya Japan.
