Thoughts of a Puerto Rican Otaku

American Minstrel shows spread came together along with the rise of political parties and newspaper circulation. With what I learned in class I'm still not surprised how far racism has been taken. According to Mark Twain "blackface minstrelsy became the most popular form of entertainment in the United States." It's sad how this type of entertainment got popular so fast. All these people did was take from the source that was African culture and put a mockery of it to sell tickets. I can't help but notice the images used for these different shows, it's as if they were posters for it, what was the history behind that? When did these illustrations begin? Sadly this was all normal and mainstream back in the day. The ending of our reading says that we really don't know if the minstrels created or reflected this ideology. The names Misael, but I go by Misa or Misha is fine, unless you want to try Misael. I was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico and traveled back and forth from my beautiful island to the States several times. I have lots of interests, I am big into Anime and Manga, and I really love writing stories. I am a practicing Christian and have been for a couple years. I'm an avid fan of movies, and particularly love anything containing superheroes and martial arts. My major is English and I'm going for a minor in Computer Information Systems. I want to have a nice day job whether it has to do with computers or editing for someone, I also want to publish books.
